The Craft

An ancient dialogue between hands, plants, and time...

Long before synthetic dyes existed, every color came from the earth.

For thousands of years, humans learned to read nature and work in harmony with it. This knowledge passed down through generations, hand to hand, season to season, as one of the most intimate conversations between people and the natural world.

Natural dyeing is the art of respecting nature's rhythms, of working with it, and of trusting that if you listen closely enough, to the plant, to the water, to the heat, nature will give you everything you need.

At Florilegium Paris, we work with two techniques

Each one a different conversation with the natural world.

Immersion dyeing

The art of coloring textiles by submerging fabric into baths rich with color extracted from plants, roots, bark, and flowers.

We start by coaxing the pigment out through heat and water. A slow, patient extraction. Then we surrender the fabric to the bath.

The result is never quite the same twice. A solid color, a gradient, a whisper of shadow across the cloth...

Just as no two flowers are ever identical, no two dyed pieces will ever be the same.

What you're left with is the soul of a pigment, something you can't always see, but that is always there.

Ecoprint

Preserving the ephemeral in its purest form.

Ecoprint is the process by which nature leaves its very essence on fabric. Through steam, heat, and time.

Each petal, leaf, root, and piece of bark makes its mark. Unique. Unrepeatable. A living impression of a moment that will never come again.

Everything in this ritual matters. The mordant that preserves the result, the choice of colors and textures, the binding. And then... the revelatory moment.

The moment you unfold the fabric and discover what nature left behind. You look closely at each color, each texture, each trace. All different. All unrepeatable.

Ecoprint is how we preserve what is fleeting, so we can hold it, wear it, and admire it for a long time to come.
